Launch of Personal Safety Awareness Boards for Children “ Un Paathugappukku Sila Yosanaigal”


As part of a collaborative, proactive and continuing effort and concern shared with the Corporation of Chennai since the last 8 years, to ensure the well being and safety of children studying in it’s schools, Tulir - Centre for the Prevention and Healing of Child Sexual Abuse has developed and installed boards in all the 275 schools managed by the Chennai Corporation with non threatening age appropriate easy to remember simple personal safety rules. This initiative has been made possible with support from Friends of India and is part of commemorating Nov. 19 - The World day for the Prevention of Child Abuse
It is based on the concepts of Personal Safety Education a program, which is an extension of the safety rules we teach our children, i.e. don’t play with fire, look both sides before and while crossing a road, etc. The messages will work towards equipping and empowering children to build self protective behavior besides strengthening the ability of those adults morally and socially responsible for the protection of children.
