Although all children   are at possible   risk of being sexually abused, the social exclusion of children with disabilities together with their increased dependency makes them especially vulnerable. A common misconception is that individuals with disabilities are asexual and are not at risk for sexual abuse and   cannot benefit from abuse prevention education .   Also in   an effort to “protect” the child,   m any children   with disabilities have never received correct information or education about abuse prevention, sexuality and self-protection or personal safety   strategies or been provided education on ways to develop and maintain healthy, respectful and supportive relationships .
